- It has Fusion 640MT control. I m not familiar at all with this control. Machine did include manuals but nothing for beginner user. I need help, where can I find basics type manual for this machine? How control panel works, how to measure tool lengths, how to load program to machine, how to set G54 work piece zero point, etc.

Mazatrol 640T fusion
We just got a Mazak with a Mazatrol 640T control. We've never ran one before, we hired a company to come in and give us the basics, but nothing further. That being said, does anyone know how, or procedure, to cut the concave or convex radii functions, and get it to switch from right hand to left hand operations to clean up the back sides of the spheres? I know there has to be a way, but we can't figure it out. The manuals are somewhat conveluted, and not very clear. I can't even find it in the manual.

Left and Right Operations? Like Back Turning?Originally Posted by boymechWe just got a Mazak with a Mazatrol 640T control. yes. Picture turning a ball hitch with a 55* rh tool. You wouldn't be able to get to the back side, but you should be able to switch to a 55* lh and turn it from the chuck side to the tailstock side.

All you do is flip the numbers mazatrol is all positive for negative numbers (if you're going towards the chuck) then negative numbers if you're going away from it. edit-can't remember if you have an actucal back turning cycle in mazatrol or not
In the tool data that where describe the shape of the tool. Left hand or Right Hand - Plastic

yes, I'm aware of how that would work. What I'm trying to figure out is if there is a default program in Mazatrol that back turns for you.

When you select a BAR operation, you are given several choices, like Out, In, Face. You also have HIGHLIGHTED options; highlighted bar out is really a back bar out.
If you use a 35* rh tool you can turn your hitch ball from the center around to 45* down ... 3/4 of the ball. You still need something left to hold on to, so I don't understand what you gain with a back operation. - Stainless

Tool data can really mess with you in this type of situation.

I knew nothing of mazak controls when my machine hit my floor in April. Took a while, but I'm up and going through using only PM and Youtube. A few pointers to get you a long the way.
First, register your machine with Mazak North America. Then get familiar with the applications engineers over there. They can help in a lot of areas and the only requirement for using their services over the phone is to own a Mazak.
Search 'everythingcnc' on youtube. There are a couple very useful starter videos he posted and he may have even posted more by now.
We all say the manual isn't helpfull and it really isn't at times, but it is really helpful as soon as you start thinking like a mazak.
Any quesitons you have mazak related post in the mazak section. Most the mazak guys check the section frequently.
The best way to get feedback on how to do a specific command on a machine for a given part is to post the print or a derivative of the print. Someone will most likely post a photo of what it should look like on the control or at least offer guidance.
If I was making a sphere, where my limited understanding as I'm still learning too, I would try making the sphere by maybe roughing out with a couple of left hand and right hand 35° diamond tools in a bar out command. roughers then followed up by a Bar Out Command using a grooving outside tool. Might even get away with using the 35° diamond tools on the final path. Might not be what you need, but might get you through this battle. I'm all but certain if you can afford to watch the grass grow, a grooving tool can certainly do the job, but it is seriously disadvantaged at moving material in a hurry.
For the most part, the conversational program will not draw it if it isn't possible to make it with the tools specified. If what you need isn't coming out right when you look at the part shap and tool path check, you need to re approach will different tools.
Also, if you want it to draw write in the part shape/tool path check, you have to have the tooling profiles built in the control otherwise it wont draw properly.
